Vitamins for the alcoholic

!: Vitamins for the alcoholic

I have frequently heard alcoholics who are in early recovery remark that, "If this is what recovery is like, I like to drink again." Deficiencies in vitamins, especially B vitamins and vitamin C may be responsible for much of the lethargy, skin irritation, memory loss and depression experienced by people who are newly recovering alcohol dependence . Although these symptoms may have been in use while the alcoholic was actively drinking they may seem less tolerablebut not under the influence of alcohol.

Alcoholics often replace food with alcohol. Unfortunately, the calories obtained from alcohol are what are often called "empty calories". In other words, they are empty calories and little value to the organization. In addition, the alcohol enters the body how to absorb and use vitamins and minerals in food that the alcoholic does not eat. The combined effect is to let the soft nutrientpoor.

Individuals in recovery can benefit from a healthy diet and vitamin regime .* Vitamin B in general and particularly vitamin B1 (thiamine) (niacin), B3 and B5 (pantothenic acid) play a role in the transformation sugars into energy. The pig is one of the best sources of vitamin B1, other sources are cereals and dried fruits. B2 can also be found in fortified cereals and pork, as well as salmon and swordfish. Whole grains, milk, eggs and liver are perhaps the best food sources for PantothenicAcid.

Meanwhile, B6 and B12 play an important role in the production of blood cells and healthy nervous system. Both vitamins are important, often neglected by years of alcoholism. Both are good sources of meat. In addition, B6 is found in banana, avocado and peanut. B12 is found only in animal products, however, this list includes dairy products and eggs.

Vitamin C plays an important role in maintaining healthy skin and plays an equally important rolehealthy bones, teeth and blood vessels. The vitamin C may also be responsible for the weakness, irritability and fatigue. The best and most consumed source of vitamin C in the United States is frozen orange juice concentrate. Other sources of vitamin C are citrus fruits, broccoli, potatoes and cantaloupe.

For the average American, a healthy diet, supplements of vitamin B and C are often unnecessary. However, early in his recovery, alcoholicsshould seek the advice of a doctor about an appropriate regimen of vitamins and diet. The focus on health problems can increase the chances of successful recovery of alcohol dependence.
